Back to school blues

Well I have switched from Myspace to this site as my blogging space...myspace was getting a little cramped. I went on an amazing kayaking/camping trip this past week which I will post on shortly, but in the meantime, I started third year of vet school yesterday.
I normally joke that I have the "suzie derkins" complex: she is the neighbor of Calvin in Calvin and Hobbes, and she is the ultimate dork, loving the smell of fresh notebook paper, etc. I was like her, in fact, last year my classmates made fun of me cause I was ALWAYS excited about starting new classes. Well for once I wasn't that excited about school...I think my mind was still in Kenya and I didn't want to accept the fact that I was back in the US. And sadly I have not enjoyed school yet.
Monday was two hours of equine integument repair, followed by two hours of swine medicine, and two hours of small animal select infectious disease...the small animal should of been fun, but it was a repeat of last year info.
Today was two more hours of swine medicine, 1 hour of equine and bovine integument repair, 1 hour of small animal vaccination, and 2 hours of pre-medication for anesthesia, ughh...
And I had this weird fantasy that when I started school I would not be bogged down or running around like a maniac like usual...not sure where the hell I got that idea from. Sure enough every lunch break and free moment in my week for the next two weeks is already booked with wildlife stuff, rhino project stuff, and orientation stuff for the new first years, what is wrong with me? Normally I love being this busy, and part of me still does, but I miss Kenya so much.
I have stopped talking to most people about Kenya. I finally realized that no matter what story I tell people can't really relate without being there, and it just makes me homesick for the place.
On a funny note, Amy, Beth and I were remembering some fun times on our trip. I was telling the story of when at 3am I woke up still drunk and freezing without a sleeping bag, so Iva offered her body heat, and we ended up cuddling up, well, actually more like spooning. Jess asked me "where was Gabe (Iva's boyfriend), hugging Iva from the other side?" and Amy responded "No, he was spooning with Mark" (who is Amy's husband). Jess was like "What the hell, if I knew it was an orgy I would of come along too!". Too funny, good times.
